Phoenix

the sky is burning

ash is falling
a silent rain
smothering reign
choking rain

ash to the horizon
ashes of was
ashes of is
ashes of might be

a legacy of mutual immolation
a joint conflagration
a foregone conclusion

ice burns as surely

waiting in ash
for a phoenix to rise
